Effects of spatial resolution on slope and aspect derivation for regional-scale analysis
نویسنده
چکیده
When performing a regional-scale geomorphometric analysis, one might face a decision on whether to derive morphometric data from a low-resolution DEM or to calculate basic derivatives from a higher resolution dataset and average these data afterwards. This paper investigates differences between morphometric parameters (slope and aspect) derived from a resampled DEM and resampled morphometric data derived from a medium resolution DEM, with examples for three study areas in South America. Using a low resolution DEM for regional scale morphometric analysis is not an optimal choice, since slope attenuation will strongly affect the distribution of calculated values. Unless bounded by computational constraints, one should choose to derive basic morphometric parameters from higher resolution data, and resample it to a coarser resolution as needed.

Effects of Digital Elevation Model (DEM) Spatial Resolution on the Recognition of Physiography Characteristics of the Basin )A Case Study of Shahrchai Watershed)
In recent years with developing geographic information systems tools, modeling and simulating methods has been developed quickly. Availability of accurate base maps is the basis of the cell sizes determination and preparing digital hydrologic models. Removing errors and minimizing of uncertainty factors in the digital models play the main role in improving the accuracy of the maps. The main pur...
متن کاملEffects of Digital Elevation Models (DEM) Spatial Resolution on Hydrological Simulation
Digital Elevation Model is one of the most important data for watershed modeling whit hydrological models that it has a significant impact on hydrological processes simulation. Several studies by the Soil and Water Assessment Tool (SWAT) as useful Tool have indicated that the simulation results of this model is very sensitive to the quality of topographic data. The aim of this study is evaluati...
متن کاملClimate Change Impact on Precipitation Extreme Events in Uncertainty Situation; Passing from Global Scale to Regional Scale
Global warming and then climate change are important topics studied by researchers throughout the world in the recent decades. In these studies, climatic parameters changes are investigated. Considering large-scaled output of AOGCMs and low precision in computational cells, uncertainty analysis is one of the principles in doing hydrological studies. For this reason, it is tried that investigati...
متن کاملEffects of topography, soil type and forest age on the frequency and size distribution of canopy gap disturbances in a tropical forest
Treefall gaps are the major source of disturbance in most tropical forests. The frequency and size of these gaps have important implications for forest ecosystem processes as they can influence the functional trait distribution of tree communities, stand-level aboveground biomass and productivity. However, we still know little about the relative importance of environmental drivers of gap distur...
متن کاملCorrelation Analysis and Analysis of Drought Time Series Based on Modis Satellite Images and Standardized Precipitation Climatic Index (SPI) on the eastern slope of Zagros
Introduction Drought is one of the environmental disasters that is very frequent in arid and semi-arid regions of the country. Rainfall defects have different effects on groundwater, soil moisture, and river flow. Meteorological drought indices are calculated directly from meteorological data such as rainfall and will not be useful in monitoring drought if the data are missing. Therefore remot...
